Artist makes the ordinary take on extraordinary look

At Elliot Smith is the annual Summer Show featuring more than a dozen of the gallery’s artists. Some good work here, especially from David Mann, Judy Child, Douglas Freed and Maxwell Stevens, whose “Love’s Frost” manages to present oil paint so wonderfully thick that the square piece resembles a futuristic piece of plastic sod.

As a bonus, check out the front gallery showing of works by Gunther Forg. His “Leaves” series owes some credit to Barnett Newman’s zip paintings, but the artist manages to breathe new life into a well-worn compositional device.
